The Killer

The Killer

Plot

Jeff Chang, a former assassin now living a quiet life in Hong Kong, is a retired hitman haunted by the ghosts of his past. Having hung up his guns and gone straight, Jeff tries to keep a low profile, even going so far as to change his name to Jeff Chow to avoid unwanted attention from former associates. However, Jeff's life is disrupted when his wife agrees to take their friend's teenage daughter, Ah-bo, on a vacation in Macau and Thailand, leaving Jeff in charge of looking after her. Jeff initially sees this as an opportunity to prove himself as a good guardian and make amends for past mistakes. Initially, things appear to go smoothly, with Jeff and Ah-bo developing a bond despite the cultural and generational differences between them. However, things take a dark turn when Jeff is forced to intervene after discovering Ah-bo and her friend being threatened by a gang of juvenile delinquents. Jeff resorts to violence to protect the girls, but in doing so, he draws attention to himself and inadvertently attracts even more danger. As the days go by, Jeff becomes increasingly entangled in Ah-bo's life, even as he desperately tries to protect her from the various threats that begin to emerge. When the girls' bodies are discovered and it becomes clear that Ah-bo has been abducted, Jeff sets out on a desperate quest to find her. As a retired hitman, Jeff's skills come back into focus as he tracks down Ah-bo's captors, but his past demons also begin to resurface. As the stakes grow higher, Jeff is forced to confront his own morality, wondering whether he is simply acting out of a sense of duty or if he has a genuine emotional connection to Ah-bo. His complicated feelings for Ah-bo are complicated by the realization that his life has been so long spent on the fringes of society that he may not be truly suited to play the role of guardian or protector.
