The Untold Story

Plot
The film opens with a scene of destruction - the aftermath of a shipwreck where a container has broken loose from the wreckage. The local authorities, along with the Macau police, arrive on the scene to investigate. The police find a crate that has been torn apart, and within, they discover a large quantity of chopped up human remains. As the news of the discovery spreads, the police department launches an investigation into the gruesome find. The detectives soon narrow down their search to a local resident, Leung Kai-chiu, a mild-mannered proprietor of a humble pork buns restaurant. Initially, Kai-chiu seems like an unlikely candidate for the heinous crime, and his restaurant is always bustling with customers. However, the police continue their surveillance, and they eventually manage to gather enough evidence to believe that Kai-chiu might be connected to the case of the human remains. Detective Sing is a gruff but efficient police officer who has a keen sense of justice. He is assigned to the case along with his younger partner, Detective Lau. Together, they pay a visit to Kai-chiu's restaurant, where they observe a peculiar scene of tranquility amidst the chaos that surrounds them. Kai-chiu, still unaware of the police suspicion, goes about his daily routine as if nothing is amiss. The detectives notice that despite the police presence, Kai-chiu continues to run his business as usual, raising suspicions about his involvement in a murder. Sing and Lau decide to pay a visit to Kai-chiu at his residence to gather more information. However, they find nothing conclusive during the search, and Kai-chiu seems genuinely oblivious to the true nature of the police's interest. As the investigation unfolds, the police find themselves with a puzzle - how can a seemingly innocuous, middle-aged man with a small business be connected to a gruesome crime of mass murder? As the police continue their investigation, Sing becomes increasingly obsessed with finding the truth behind Kai-chiu's connection to the human remains. He starts to suspect that there's more to Kai-chiu's story than just his mundane appearance, and the detective becomes fixated on peeling away the layers of deceit. One of the most interesting aspects of the story is the character development of Kai-chiu. Throughout the film, we observe him through the lens of his interactions with various individuals. His relationship with his estranged wife and her new husband reveals a deeper side of his character, hinting at an underlying desperation that could have propelled him to take extreme measures. Through subtle clues and hints, the police slowly close in on Kai-chiu, gradually increasing the pressure. Eventually, the tension boils over as Sing and Lau confront Kai-chiu, but instead of finding the evidence they're looking for, they're met with an unexpected twist that completely upends their assumptions.
