The Order

Plot
The Order is a 2001 American drama-thriller film directed by Brian Helgeland, based on a true story. The film is set in the late 1980s and revolves around the true events surrounding the violent White Aryan Resistance (WAR) movement that aimed to ignite a civil war across the United States. The movie begins with a series of unconnected violent robberies taking place in Portland, Oregon, causing a significant impact on the city's residents. The ruthless crimes do not seem to have any motive, leaving the local police baffled. However, FBI agent Terry Hawk, played by Patrick Bruce Willis, a renegade and veteran agent, is brought in to help solve the case. As Hawk begins to investigate, he uncovers a web of white supremacist connections between the violent robberies. The plot deepens when Hawk discovers that the robberies appear to be orchestrated by a shadowy figure linked to Robert Jay Mathews, a charismatic and well-organized white supremacist leader of the BrödrAsk, a radical white supremacist group. Mathews is the mastermind behind the robberies and part of a larger, more ambitious plan to overthrow the federal government and instigate a national rebellion. However, unbeknownst to Mathews is that his actions have attracted the attention of the FBI. Hawk sees this as a perfect opportunity to catch the serial robbers, which could damage the international reputation of white supremacist groups and effectively weaken their influence. Terry teams up with his partner, Emily Lehman, a specialized officer, to infiltrate the BrödrAsk. Together, they surveil the group and gather intelligence on its activities. Along the way, they realize that the BrödrAsk's activities may be just the tip of the iceberg. According to Hawk's findings, there is a greater plan linked to a wide network of white supremacist groups across the United States. The intricate web of inter-connected extremist groups escalates the stakes in the case, forcing Hawk and his colleagues to think outside the box. As the investigation unfolds, they find connections between Mathews and other radical groups scattered across the country. There's some anticipation as the investigation progresses, adding some mystery on why the group is carrying out these violent robberies. Mathews gives an example when he proclaims himself as the enemy of an oppressive federal government that he claims has forsaken its people to multicultural entities. His passionate speeches provoke a stronger response than anticipated from several would-be rebels that have the drive to carry on with his violent agenda. The discovery of the true motives of Robert Jay and his cohorts adds danger to the investigation and leads the authorities to clash with him. Terry and Emily's investigations conclude that the radical white supremacist movement poses a potential threat to domestic security, compelling them to apply increased efforts to undermine and dismantle the BrödrAsk and the larger network of extremist groups linked to Mathews. Ultimately, Hawk realizes that the intricate threads between the robberies would lead him to connect the masterminds of the plots. Hawk discovers that the movement's headquarters is hidden in an isolated region deep in the Oregon forest and also realizes time is running out to foil their conspiracy.
