The Sea Beast

In the 19th century, the world is obsessed with sea monsters – creatures said to terrorize the oceans and wreak havoc on unsuspecting sailors. Among the most renowned monster hunters is Jacob Holland, the fearsome captain of the Inevitable, a sturdy ship with a motley crew of seasoned sailors and sharpshooters. For years, Jacob has been at the forefront of the hunt, seeking out and dispatching legendary sea beasts said to roam the world's oceans. One fateful day, while anchored in a small seaside town, the Inevitable is boarded by a young stowaway, Maisie Brumble. Maisie is an intrepid 12-year-old with a rebellious spirit and a fascination with sea monsters. She grew up listening to tales of these creatures and dreams of adventure beyond her mundane existence. Sensing an opportunity, Maisie sneaks onto the ship, where she is discovered by Jacob and his crew. Initially resistant to being parted from her new life, Maisie eventually charms the captain with her courage, wit, and feistiness. As the Inevitable sets sail, Maisie begins to learn the ways of a monster hunter from the burly and cantankerous Brindley, one of Jacob's seasoned crew members. She proves quick to learn and eager to prove herself, impressing not only Brindley but the entire crew with her bravery in the face of adversity. With Maisie as his protégée, Jacob ponders joining forces with Britain's own fleet to hunt down the most elusive sea monster known to man – the so-called Red Bluster. Their journey leads them through uncharted waters, where the duo encounters their first sea monster, a colossal whale with blisters on its body the size of men. Unaware of the colossal size, Maisie and Brindley, along with some crew members, set out in small boats in pursuit of their prey. What unfolds is a turning point for both Maisie and Captain Holland. During Jacob's absence at sea while tracking monster and getting lost in the wilderness, Maisie proves capable of facing not only the gigantic sea creatures but also confronts human difficulties including her crewmates going mad, getting into all sorts of other conflicts, that the legendary Red Bluster can be met. Confronting the other side of monster hunting reality begins a challenging and potentially world-changing odyssey for Jacob and Maisie. As her first whale-shooting endeavor succceeds it's clear for both Jacob and Maisie and that their respective hearts in reality begin changing where his long-time obsession of sea monster comes to question and Maisie begins to realize her newfound thirst for sea adventure and spirit to survive in the face of danger both inside and outside.
