The Wandering Earth II

The Wandering Earth II begins with a flashback of the devastating consequences of Earth's threatened collision course with the approaching Black Hole "Taught by Earth Star". In order to escape the apocalypse, giant propulsion engines were built to hasten the planet's migration to a new home. The massive undertaking was met with incredible challenges and unparalleled human determination. Fifteen years have passed since the arduous journey began. Earth's migrants live in small, self-sustaining habitats that float within the propulsion system. Living conditions have now become more tolerable, and the residents, ranging from assorted age groups, have gradually gotten accustomed to this artificially designed environment. Young Xia Yan, a talented and adventurous 21-year-old, is eager to contribute significantly to the society. Xia Yan is curious about his world, struggling to come to terms with his identity as the son of highly respected individuals who have spent their lives caring for the group. Following the passing of his mother, Xia's feelings of inadequacy grew stronger. After discovering a clandestine entry on the group's restricted database, Xia discovers that several "unnatural, hazardous" earthquakes, which originated within the propulsion devices themselves, were, in fact, not random events. Due to the increased pace of Earth's movements, internal conditions of the engines have started to deteriorate, signaling its malfunction. It is soon discovered that an immense "Vaccum Distortion" anomaly is having an adverse effect on the propulsion systems. Since the anomaly's effect on earth's earth propulsion systems deepens, the society reacts quickly to find hope and a possible solution. With Earth's long-term prospects continuing to worsen, Xia feels not only responsible but urges action, aligning with fellow scientist Hesin to guide his investigations towards solving this looming crisis. Xia realizes that in order to avoid impending catastrophes with ever-looming risk, not just immediate safety must be secured, but he has also come to understand the looming danger. Xia faces frustration resulting from continuous failures and encounters that exacerbate Earth's imperiled standing. Understandably, Xia experiences isolation from his people and uncertainty about how to advance beyond these adversities, which he encounters daily. Dexter Wei Long, Xia's friend who is more level-headed, understands Xia's position, having faced obstacles in his own life. They begin working together to understand the anomalies which Xia has unearthed. Xia continues his studies, seeking to unravel the mystery behind the imperfections within the engines, only to be told by higher authorities that Xia's individual pursuit of data has caused significant security breaches, posing a danger to the engines and society. Consequently, Xia and Hesin are ordered to cease the search for a solution by High Command. The only friend Xia believes is left for him, is Lue. Xia finds motivation from his loyal best friend's trust: "Together, you'll achieve higher possibilities, only have hope." Xia believes, unifying perseverance's strength that makes Xia search more persistently and comprehensively than ever. Their next challenge also implies additional exposure to serious personal risks which Xia puts at a higher level, attempting to determine accurate reasons behind frequent malfunctions. They encounter critical circumstances caused by vacuums distortion when Xia has repeatedly delved too deep. Now Xia understands a little about how to resolve that vacuum distortion.
