Plot

As the behemoth emerges from the depths of Mount Dovre, it wreaks havoc on the landscape, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. The people of Norway are gripped with fear as they learn that the creature's destination is the capital city itself. Amidst the panic, a young girl named Anne is forced to confront her own mortality when she discovers that the trolls are not mindless monsters, but rather ancient beings seeking revenge against humanity for past wrongs. As the troll army marches towards Oslo, the nation teeters on the brink of collapse. In an effort to stem the tide of destruction, a group of unlikely heroes emerges: Anne's eccentric uncle, Harry; her best friend, Peter; and a mysterious stranger named Olaf. Together, they embark on a perilous quest to reach the troll's lair and negotiate with its leader, the fearsome Troll King. As they delve deeper into the heart of Dovre Mountain, the group discovers that the trolls are not just mindless beasts, but rather ancient beings with their own culture, customs, and motivations. Anne, in particular, forms a connection with the Troll King's daughter, Giselle, who shares her desire for peace and coexistence. As tensions escalate and the fate of Norway hangs precariously in the balance, Anne and her companions must confront their own prejudices and biases to forge an unlikely alliance with the trolls. With the capital city on the verge of being overrun, they must work together to find a way to stop the destruction and restore harmony between humans and trolls. The plot is cliché from start to finish: a mystery is uncovered in an unknown land, scientists are urgently summoned, the scientists clash, then the scientists' theories are proven correct, a search for someone in the know, clues sought within mythology, an insider throwing obstacles in the way, hackers causing havoc, the original sin that started it all is found, politicians want to unleash a massacre, and a peaceful resolution is reached at the last second. #Every plot point is a copy from past movies# More could have been explored about the origin of the troll, giving it a greater sense of historical weight.

An environmental film, I initially anticipated a modern-day fairy tale. However, the ending felt overly contrived. Committing to either a completely dark conclusion or a thorough redemption could have been far more impactful. Instead, the film first threatens destruction, then pivots to rescue, ultimately depicting the troll trapped and killed by natural sunlight. This reeks of an agenda of having it both ways, aiming to kill the beast while simultaneously evading judgment for doing so. It's frustratingly anthropocentric.
