Trolls World Tour

Plot
In the vibrant and whimsical world of the Trolls, a groundbreaking discovery shatters the tranquility of Poppy and Branch's community. Excitement and curiosity grip the hearts of the Trolls as they uncover the existence of other worlds, teeming with unique and colorful Troll tribes. The discovery sets off a chain reaction of awe, wonder, and, ultimately, discord. The various Trolls, each with their distinct personalities, customs, and music styles, clash in a maelstrom of differences. Queen Poppy, ever the optimist, sees the potential for unity and cooperation among the diverse Troll tribes. She longs to bring them together, bridge their gaps, and create a harmonious world where they can live in perfect sync. Her unwavering enthusiasm is contagious, and she begins to rally her closest friends, including Branch, the grumpy yet lovable cynic, Guy Diamond, the fashion-forward, sparkly rockstar, and Chenille, the soft-spoken yet quick-witted Troll. As fate would have it, their harmonious endeavors are interrupted by a mysterious threat that imperils the very existence of the Troll worlds. A menacing force begins to escalate the tensions between the various Troll tribes, instigating violent clashes and forcing them to forget their differences in the face of a common enemy. The ominous presence, revealed to be a power-obsessed and tyrannical force known as Queen Barb from a world of hard-rocking, bass-banging Trolls, aims to conquer all of the Troll realms. Under the pressure of time and the unrelenting assault of Queen Barb's forces, Poppy and her band of friends embark on an epic quest to unite the fragmented Troll tribes. Their mission is far from easy, as they must navigate the intricate web of Troll cultures, traditions, and customs to find a common ground. Along the way, they encounter an array of colorful Troll characters, each with their unique personalities and musical styles, which further highlight the diversity of the Troll worlds. Their journey takes them to the Pop World, a realm of bright and cheerful Pop-Trolls, who shine with an effervescent sparkle. They venture into the Classical World, where they meet the elegant, refined, and musical Trollin' Divas. The energetic and upbeat Reggaeton Trolls, belonging to Dwayne's tribe, welcome them with open arms and infectious beats. Each new culture and encounter brings its share of challenges and rewards, testing the bonds of friendship and Poppy's determination to unite the Trolls. As the stakes grow higher and the danger reaches its zenith, the stakes reach critical levels. Poppy, Branch, and their friends confront Queen Barb in an electrifying showdown that will determine the fate of the Troll worlds. In the heat of battle, they draw upon their combined strength, the power of friendship, and the beauty of diversity to create a harmonious bond that resonates deep within the hearts of the Trolls. In the thrilling conclusion of Trolls World Tour, the essence of the Troll tribes comes full circle, illustrating that coexistence, mutual respect, and love are the only paths to saving their world from the darkness of division and that love can indeed triumph over the forces of hate.

The music culture gets a thorough makeover with a medley of various hit songs. The four bounty hunters are amusing, especially the gentle jazz one, haha, brilliant (voiced by Mr. Fifty Shades himself!). The plot is childishly silly and the storyline is chaotic, but the theme of "unity in diversity" is decent, complementing the dazzling "rainbow colors" throughout the film.

The story is mediocre and not as interesting as the first film. Especially the female lead, besides being quick-witted, is almost worthless. However, the world-building and music are fantastic, especially the depiction of various trolls and music genres: "corny" country music, melancholic blues, yodeling that's just there for the sponsorships, K-pop girl groups battling Latin reggaeton, and so on. Among the six major music genres, rock is the most aggressive, electronic music has a low presence (only as a remix in the grand finale), funk and rap are indeed versatile, and the music hierarchy that eventually leads to harmony are all brilliant settings. But the story is uninteresting, and these elements completely overshadow it.

In a world as fluid yet increasingly divided as ours, understanding diversity is more precious than ever. It's not about being colorblind (I don't see color), because that's denying the unique experiences of others. Rather, by embracing our differences, we can better understand our shared humanity and find ways to connect with one another. The plot itself is pretty standard, and personally, the songs aren't as great as the first movie, but the golden, shining message truly elevates it.

Well, it's one of those sequels that doesn't quite measure up to the original... The technical skills are impressive, though, with those mountains made of blankets and rivers of tulle creating amazing textures. But the story ends with beat music saving the world, and rock music still gets no respect, which feels a little ironic.

It's all talk about creating harmony, but honestly, where's the hard rock? Seriously, hard rock only stands a chance if it wipes out pop music; otherwise, it's just a "queen" in name only, without even a chance to mash up!
