Plot

Crows Zero, released in 2007, is a Japanese action-drama film directed by Takashi Miike. Based on a manga by Takashi Miike, Hiroshi Takahashi, and Osamu Komuro, the movie serves as a prequel to the original Crows film. The story revolves around Suzuran High School, a notorious institution where the King of School title holds immense significance. The tale begins with Genji Takiya, a charismatic and fearless student who has returned to Suzuran High after a year-long absence. Takiya has an impressive reputation among his peers, but he is also feared for his brutal tactics and the fact that he is the only student who has never lost a fight on school grounds. As the new academic year starts, various students vying for the coveted position of King of School emerge. Among them is Shinji Nishizawa, who has transferred to Suzuran High with a fierce determination to become the top dog. Shinji forms a close bond with his fellow transfer student, Serizawa Ken'ichi, the main protagonist of the story. Ken'ichi is an endearing and kind-hearted boy who finds himself in the midst of Suzuran High's cutthroat environment. Despite his meek demeanor, Ken'ichi harbors a burning desire to overcome his low social standing and achieve his dream of becoming the King. Under the guidance of a group of upper-classmen, Takiya and a few of his loyal allies, Ken'ichi begins to learn the harsh realities of the school's social hierarchy. Another character of pivotal importance is Akira Ando, an accomplished student with exceptional fighting skills and a reputation for ruthlessness. Akira is a complex figure who harbors deep loyalty towards his fellow students and a strong sense of justice, but also struggles with an unsettling tendency to brutally suppress his opponents. Takiya takes a keen interest in Ken'ichi, viewing him as a kindred spirit and potential protégé. Under Takiya's guidance, Ken'ichi slowly blossoms as a formidable fighter and an influential force within the school. However, their partnership is put to the test when Takiya is forced to carry out a mission for the ruthless and feared yakuza leader, Shido. Shido dispatches Takiya to eliminate the son of a fellow gang leader, which would strengthen his own position within the yakuza. However, Takiya finds himself unable to complete the task, as the young man bears an uncanny resemblance to his former friend and fellow student, who had died under tragic circumstances. This haunting reminder of his youth stirs powerful emotions within Takiya, causing him to waver in his resolve. As a result of his conflicted loyalties, Takiya is expelled from the yakuza, and his future hangs in the balance. Nevertheless, this unexpected turn of events brings Ken'ichi and Takiya closer together, forming a bond that transcends their rivalry for the King of School title. Meanwhile, tensions escalate as rival factions within Suzuran High vie for dominance. Ken'ichi and Takiya find themselves at the epicenter of a heated power struggle, and their friendship is put to the test as they navigate the treacherous landscape of high school politics and organized crime. In a thrilling climax, the students assemble for the school's highly anticipated King of School tournament. As the stage is set for the competition to begin, Ken'ichi and Takiya prepare to face off against their respective foes. Despite their deep differences, the two boys are ultimately united by their conviction to protect their friends and their desire for recognition within Suzuran High's complex hierarchy. In the end, Ken'ichi emerges victorious in the King of School tournament, and his determination to excel in the school and in life serves as a testament to the transformative power of human friendship and perseverance in the face of adversity.
