Ferdinand

Ferdinand

Plot

In the rolling hills of Spain, a young bull calf named Ferdinand roams free among the flowers, basking in the warm Mediterranean sun. Unlike other young bulls of his kind, Ferdinand is unlike the rest. While they spend their days charging and bucking, eager to compete, Ferdinand's preference is to sit quietly, surrounded by the beauty of nature. He finds peace and tranquility under the gentle shade of a towering cork tree, where the scent of the nearby flowers fills his senses. As Ferdinand grows into a majestic bull, his idyllic existence remains unaltered. He shares his life with a family of birds who live in a nearby tree, teaching him the importance of simplicity, patience, and love for the natural world. Despite his size and strength, Ferdinand's gentle nature and kind heart set him apart from his rambunctious peers. However, Ferdinand's serene existence is disrupted by five men who arrive in search of the perfect bull for the bullfights in Madrid. The men scurry around, measuring and inspecting the bulls, looking for the biggest, fastest, and roughest contestant. Unbeknownst to them, Ferdinand's gentle nature has been misinterpreted as weakness, and he is mistakenly selected to join the ensemble. The journey from the peaceful countryside to the bustling streets of Madrid marks a turning point in Ferdinand's life. Surrounded by noise and chaos, the young bull is bewildered and scared by the unfamiliar surroundings. Among the cacophony of sounds, he longs for the tranquility of the countryside and the comforting presence of his bird friends. The men who selected Ferdinand transport him to the bullring, where he is schooled in the art of aggression and ferocity. However, it soon becomes apparent that Ferdinand is not destined for the rough and tumble world of bullfighting. Despite the trainer's best efforts to toughen him, Ferdinand's innate gentleness remains unchanged. He is unlike any other bull, and his refusal to fight jeopardizes his place in the impending bullfights. Confronted with the possibility of being devoured by a pack of savage dogs or skewered by the picadores, Ferdinand is forced to confront the harsh realities of the bullring. Will he adapt to the cruel world or risk everything to preserve his spirit? In a pivotal moment, a group of American matadors, famous for their dramatic entrances and flair for drama, are invited to demonstrate their prowess at the Madrid bullfights. These famous matadors appreciate Ferdinand's courageous uniqueness and attempt to rescue him from the cruel fate that awaits him. As they challenge the cruel matador who selected him, the crowd begins to resonate with Ferdinand's gentle heartbeat. One American matador befriends Ferdinand and, understanding his plight, attempts to return him to the countryside where he belongs. With the distraction provided by the matadors, Ferdinand is allowed to roam free, and he finally finds the peace and tranquility he has longed for. He returns home to the smiling faces of his bird friends and resumes his life, unscathed, in the rolling hills of Spain. Though this film never contains language that the famous Spaniard was raised in, it will showcase Spain's beautiful landscape that serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving a gentle soul.
