Monster House

Plot

The movie Monster House begins with a introduction to the main characters: DJ (Dustin Parrish), a 12-year-old boy fascinated by the supernatural and who loves reading spooky books. Next is Chloe (Chloë Moretz), DJ's best friend and a science-genius prodigy who initially disbelieves his claims. She carries a large encyclopedia in her backpack to access to vital information on anything since they've had limited access to bookstores in one of the cities most unlikely neighborhood. The final character is Conner (Chris Santucci), DJ's wisecracking, more skeptical best friend who is often at loggerheads with DJ. As summer sets in, the three children gang up to tackle the 'curse' associated with 567 Cloverdale Drive, their eccentric neighbor's home. Known as Monster House to the neighborhood kids, the decrepit house always appears abandoned, mysterious and wicked. The house has a notorious reputation and has long been linked to unexplained and mysterious incidents involving the neighborhood children. Several unexplained but gruesome events continue to occur within the house, making the neighborhood kids frightened of it. As children in the area continuously disappear mysteriously close by to this place, neighborly families have given up and relocated quickly to higher ground, their formerly occupied homes and properties are now up for sale with "Beware of the Monster house warning sign" attached at the exterior. Many are so frightened of it that only one courageous principal teacher and D.J's mum seemingly resist the temptation of running away. Despite their differences, DJ and his best friends embark on an adventure to figure out why the house is destroying the neighborhood and ultimately put an end to the 'monster'. Using science and logic to approach this enigma, the trio find different motives which were leading DJ into a further obsession of Monster House - they had heard several testimonies that hinted the Monster House can manifest into a real, full-blown person. Convinced a monster, perhaps one that truly lived under the house must be real after witnessing terrible occurrences in the neighborhood, they thus begin contemplating options on how to put it to rest. However, as DJ gets more up close and personal with the Monster House, he inadvertently befriends the strange occurrences involved in the house - most notably the invisible Boy and his disfigured grandmother. Now that has gone from what initially seemed to be out of control killings of local kids trying to play or ride their scooter outside of its property boundary. We now hear of 567's dark secrets through recollections based on first-hand accounts told to Chloe. We discover how the little invisible Boy and his mum (who resided in the Monster House) got involved in the ordeal - how their unassuming mom unexpectedly lost her once glamorous beauty and status in life on her unwhimsical husband. Thus, the whole entire mystery behind Monster House starts unveiling - the "unmonstrifyingly" well-crafted movie started out as something of straightforward drama. It turns out that the grandfather who became utterly enthralled with the little boy instantly became disillusioned with the relationship that he couldn't relate to the grandparents however despite their disapproval he takes the little boy on elaborate pretend missions. After the grandfather who has put them in all sorts of difficulty almost falls to death, when they one day become disigusted by grandmothers unfaithful behavior in her adult years, the grandmother gets 'erased into her "ageless face of a woman whose eyes had lost their spark in such a time of sorrow" long gone. Overwhelmed with both tragedy and disappointment, the entire town has since been a deep pity for both and so they thus disfigured their grandmother into this aged witch figure to 'keep an old tradition' off her face she let them transform her back to normal and to her true age but it had been centuries too late. When the tragic Boy witnesses his grandmother's decline over time, this drives him to seek away from home as far as ever, leaving a haunted face of house #567. The Monster House grew from his deep despair and hurt after living his childhood and being isolated within it, although as life went continuously sad – every now and then when it gets lonely, he transforms any neighbor he encounters to his sad existence, out of misery and longing for companionship. DJ realises his claims are real - but unfortunately, so is the desperation of all the kids trapped in a house that has built multiple ill-gotten wealth back a fair way just having lived well over centuries as he is now entangled with its inner workings.
